The advanced countries have gained a lead of forty years in this study of science and technology named 'Illuminating Engineering'. Now being at the threshold of the twenty-first century, we in India can hardly afford to wait any longer to introduce Illuminating Engineering. Illuminating Engineering is divided into two distinct branches-production of artificial light to the nearest visible spectrum band as natural light and meticulous use of this artificial light to illuminate the field of vision bringing natural comfort by driving out the fear of darkness. Even without the advantage of a systematic course of study, our Illuminating Engineers have already won many 'International Laurels' in the field of illumination which is a clear indication of the hardships, determination and the innovative qualities they possess. So, the captive intelligence inherent in Indian Technocrats need be fully utilized for attaining the highest position in the field of Illuminating Engineering. The present volume is a clarion call to all the technocrats, educationists and industrialists who wish this stream of engineering to propagate. They are requested to accept this challenge for placing Illuminating Engineering on permanent footing in India.
